Bond Connect Sets New Record for Monthly Trading Volume

Highlights of the Month
- The total monthly trading volume of Northbound Bond Connect rose 28.6% MoM, hitting a new high of RMB 956.2 billion in March. The monthly average daily turnover also set a record of RMB 41.6 billion.
- ePrime supported Bank of China Hong Kong Branch on its two-year offshore RMB 1 billion sustainability bond issuance on March 20. The proceeds of the two-year sustainability bonds will be used to finance and/or refinance eligible sustainability projects located in the Hainan Free Trade Port. On the Northbound side, ePrime also facilitated cross-border subscriptions of bonds issued by China Development Bank, Agricultural Development Bank of China, and the Export-Import Bank of China in March. Offshore investors utilized ePrime to communicate with underwriters throughout the entire subscription process and seamlessly received their allocation.
- BCCL hosted the first in-person mini seminar since 2020 on March 22, featuring Hua Tai Securities on “China Bond Market Outlook post the Two Session: Prospects & Strategies” with in-depth presentations on 2023 China macroeconomics, China bond market development and investment strategies of rates & credit bonds.
- BCCL successfully launched the inaugural ePrime Issuance Service workshop series on March 31, which allowed offshore underwriters to voice out market feedback and interact with their peers on the latest ePrime features via mock deals. The workshop hosted attendees from Bank of China, CICC, ICBC (Asia) and Orient Securities. BCCL welcomes more offshore underwriters to join the second workshop on April 28 and many more others in the future.
- BCCL was invited by CICC as a guest speaker at their China-Japan Finance and Economic Forum in Tokyo on March 24, exchanging views on topics such as implications from NPC & CPPCC 2023, post-Covid Asian economic outlook and cross-border securities investment trend & strategy.
- PMIP disclosed the pre- and post-issuance information of 131 primary bonds in March, including policy financial bonds, financial bonds, medium term notes and perpetual bonds.
