BCCL & CICC Co-hosted a Webinar on "China Bonds in a Global Perspective"

On 27 February 2025, Bond Connect Company Limited (BCCL) and CICC co-hosted a webinar titled “China Bonds in a Global Perspective”. The event attracted close to 600 registrants from more than 20 countries and regions, including representatives from central banks, hedge funds, asset management firms, and commercial banks.

Mr. Tony WANG, General Manager of BCCL, delivered the opening remarks. He provided an overview of the China bond market, “We observed steady growth in 2024, with a total issuance of 79.3 trillion RMB, an 11.7% year-on-year increase”. He remarked Bond Connect covers 830 overseas investors with around 4400 trading accounts across nearly 40 jurisdictions. “In 2024, Bond Connect remained as the dominant China access channel, with a new yearly trading volume record of 10.4 trillion RMB, accounting for 61% of total CIBM overseas investor trading activities.”


Mr. WANG highlighted the three Bond Connect related enhancements announced by the People's Bank of China (PBOC) and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) including Offshore RMB Repo. He emphasized that with the latest service fees reduction, Bond Connect will persist in optimizing the scheme to facilitate international investors’ asset allocation while supporting the RMB internationalization journey.




Next, Mr. Jianheng CHEN, Managing Director of CICC, presented an in-depth analysis and outlook on the trends of China's bond market in 2025.



In a subsequent panel discussion, experts from international markets explored various topics, including global portfolio diversification, the invertibility of Chinese bonds, and the rise of green and sustainability bonds, etc. Panelists unanimously agreed on the growing significance of China's bond market in global asset allocation, highlighting the emerging opportunities in green finance and sustainable development as major growth points.

The event offered valuable market insights to global investors and reinforced the foundation for the internationalization of China's bond market. Looking ahead, BCCL and CICC will continue to strengthen their collaboration and leverage their professional advantages in the bond market. Aiming to help global investors seize investment opportunities in China's bond market and contribute to its high-quality development.
